Join the HIMSS National Capital Area (NCA) Chapter for our first program of the 2024-2025 program year! We’ll explore how AI and IT automation are transforming the healthcare ecosystem—from care delivery and claims payment to preventing fraud, waste, and abuse. Hear from AI experts in the Federal Government as they discuss how these technologies are advancing quality of care, health equity, payment models, and more.

Ms. Andrea Hobby
Member of AI Ethical & Responsible Use Workgroup at HHS & and Data Science Advisor at HRSA
Ms. Andrea Hobby is a Data Scientist with over 4 years of experience working with the federal government. She has successfully led data science projects for HRSA and Accenture Federal Services. As a Data Scientist, she focuses on using data science to improve healthcare operations and on developing AI strategies for organizations. In addition, Ms. Hobby is a current doctoral student at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Prior to HRSA and Accenture Federal Services, she was a Data Science and Data Visualization Fellow at the FDA. Before that, she held various clinical research operations positions with Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, the University of Washington, and UCLA.
She holds an MS in Epidemiology from Georgetown University and a BA in Political Science from Wellesley College. Previously, she has served as a Reviewer for HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition. She is currently a Member of the HIMSS Maryland Chapter and a previous member of the HIMSS DC Chapter. Also, she is a member of AMIA.

Mr. Kevin Duvall
Acting Chief Technology Officer/Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, Administration for Children & Families at HHS
Mr. Kevin Duvall's roles, via the Office of Administration, provide leadership and strategic direction to technology, artificial intelligence, and innovation delivery at ACF. He works closely with ACF offices and directly manages ACF’s Office of the Chief Information Officer to ensure ACF is aligning forward-leaning technology with the work of staff. Joining ACF in 2021, Mr. Duvall makes sure the vital services ACF provides are equitable, efficient, and effective through data, artificial intelligence, and technology, and ACF’s business processes are aligned in support. He also supervises and oversees the strategy and direction of the Digital Services at ACF function, a unit dedicated to improving the design and delivery of services across ACF and the human services ecosystem.
Mr. Duvall served in an additional capacity leading the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H)’s technology portfolio in 2023, as their inaugural Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Officer. Before working at ACF, he was the acting chief data officer at HHS. Prior to joining HHS, Mr. Duvall worked at the University of Virginia where he was responsible for acquiring and implementing cloud products and he worked directly for the university’s chief information officer driving forward critical actions in audit response, continuity of operations planning, strategic planning, and staff development/learning.
He holds a M.S. in management of information technology and a B.S. in chemical engineering and physics, both from the University of Virginia.
Dr. Alan Sim
Chief Data Officer at CDC
Dr. Alan Sim, PhD, Chief Data Officer at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is an epidemiologist, data scientist, and population health informatics professional with expertise in transforming data into actionable information in government and military organizations. He provides leadership and vision related to the application of machine learning, AI from disparate data sources. He led and managed teams to develop clinical registries, health statistics, and research deliverables to arm providers, public health practitioners, and researchers with insights to better serve the health needs of the population. He earned a Master of Science in Community Health (Epidemiology) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health, and a PhD in Epidemiology at Drexel University.
Ms. Christina Caraballo
Vice President of Informatics at HIMSS National
Ms. Carabello is a force of positive energy and is known as a thought leader who solves problems. She is transforming health care by synergizing her passions for policy, innovation, interoperability, consumer engagement, access to useable information, and the adoption of health IT. Ms. Carabello’s mission is to transform healthcare through the adoption of health IT, make a positive impact in the world and improve communities at the local, national, and international levels. As Vice President of Informatics at HIMSS, Ms. Carabello leads the Clinical Informatics, Strategic Advisory, Interoperability and Standards, Operations and Implementation, and Privacy, Security, and Cybersecurity teams. She brings a deep understanding of addressing real-world challenges the industry must overcome to implement a robust health IT infrastructure that serves all stakeholders with a focus on access to information, vulnerable populations, and communities.
As a recognized leader in the health IT sector, Ms. Carabello is an active participate in and advocates for industry initiatives that strive to increase the adoption of health IT, interoperability, and patient engagement. In her various roles, Ms. Carabello coordinates and collaborates with a wide range of stakeholders. Notable committees/work groups and recognitions include: Current IHE USA President, serves on the IHE International Board of Directors, serves on IHE Catalyst General Assembly, appointed to the Federal Health IT Advisory Committee (HITAC) by the Government Accountability Office; served as a Co-Chair for the U.S. Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) Task Force and member of the Annual Report to Congress Work Group; member of the HITAC’s Interoperability Standards Workgroup; appointed to the Maryland-D.C. District Export Council by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce; served as Chair of the HIMSS Technical Guidance for Interoperability Work Group; former member of the National Association for Trusted Exchange (NATE) Board of Directors; served on the HIMSS Connected Health Committee (Past Chair); planning committee member of the 2019, 2020, and 2021 HIMSS Interoperability and Health Information Exchange Pre-conference Symposium; 2016 HIMSS Most Influential Women in HIT Inaugural Awardee (Recognized at HIMSS17 Annual Conference.)
